Comfortable win for Rangers

SCARVA Rangers enjoyed a comfortable victory in Saturday’s Mid-Ulster Shield clash.

They carved out an early lead at a chilly Scarva Park when Rod Douglas met Kyle Jennett’s inviting cross with a decisive header.

An elusive run from Greg Douglas set up David Dillon whose shot was blocked on the Dromore side’s goal line and later in the half Dillon headed a Neil Anderson cross over the bar. Anderson was then denied when a goal bound header was cleared off the line.

Scarva’s dynamic midfielder was then thwarted by the woodwork, with a delightful volley thundering off the crossbar.

Persistence pays off and Anderson clinched the goal his play deserved when he met a Jennett corner at the back post and coolly guided the ball into the net.

A Jennett cross then bamboozled the visiting keeper and ended up in the back of the net as Scarva stretched their lead to 3-0.

Dean McCammon raced on to a dangerous through ball and was upended by the advancing keeper. The match official pointed to the spot and the penalty was duly fired home by Greg Douglas as his side took an unassailable four goal lead.

A free flowing move from the home side ended with Stephen Hendron steering his shot just wide.

Late in the game the keeper cleared the ball with Hendron rapidly advancing but the clearance landed at the feet of Neil Anderson and he majestically lobbed the ball into the back of the net from all of 30 yards.

The margin of victory could have been even greater but two goals were ruled out for offside.

Best for Scarva Rangers – Neil Anderson.
