Donacloney Firsts took on Hillsborough Boys in a home game played at Dromore Leisure Centre on Saturday past.
The Division 3 fixture was Hillsborough’s last game of the season and the early indications were that they wanted to finish well, looking very fired up for the game.
Hillsborough took the lead after they were afforded too much space from the Donacloney midfield and defence and make no mistake, capitalising on it for a 1-0 lead.
They doubled their lead shortly afterwards, the cross from wide wasn’t cleared in the first instance, and the Hillsborough forward then had another go to make something of it, finishing from close range finish with little Derek Curran in the Donacloney goal could do to stop it.
Donacloney pushed forward in the second half with increased intensity.
Substitute Ben Nelson created a chance as he took possession and drove through the middle before putting Tommy McElroy through to his left.
McElroy opted to look for the onrushing Kane Croft but the pass didn’t find Croft and the attack broke down.
McElroy did manage to get a goal back for Donacloney, his first goal for the club.
Gary Knox laid the ball into his path and McElroy struck the ball low and hard for 2-1.
Nothing more was to come of any Donacloney pressure in the second half, with Hillsborough still pushing on themselves, and looking particularly dangerous in the wide areas of the pitch throughout the game.
Donacloney team; Derek Curran, Dave Watterson, Davy Sterritt, Damien Higgins, Tim Carson, Johnny Brown, Jason Stokes, Tommy McElroy, Gary Knox, Kane Croft, Chris Shields. Subs; Ben Nelson (replaced Shields), Andrew Cairns (replaced Sterritt), Jordan Woods (replaced Brown).
Donacloney Reserves had no game on Saturday past but are away to Seagoe Reserves in the league on Wednesday night (20th April) at their Tarsan Lane pitch.
Firsts are away to Moira Albion on Saturday with the Reserves at home (at The Holmes in the village) against Banbridge Town AFC Reserves.
