Boss unhappy after frustrating defeat

Moneyslane first-team boss David Johnstone was annoyed after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Oxford Sunnyside on Saturday and bemoaned their opponents’ much-changed line-up.

“It was a really frustrating day for us,” he said.

“It was disappointing to see how much their team changed from Wednesday night against St Mary’s.

“Yes we failed the test on Saturay and lost the game but it is not right that St Mary’s did not have face the same test. I attended the game on Wednesday night and there were at least seven changes from the team that were beaten 9-0.

“Oxford Sunnyside actually beat St Mary’s a matter of weeks ago and beat us on Saturday yet somehow lost 9-0 to St Mary’s.

“The game was delayed at one stage as there were no footballs with the home team refusing to go and look for any and we had to use our own training ball just to get the game going. People can draw their own conclusions.

“On the game itself, we were poor and only have ourselves to blame for dropping three points. I felt attitudes were wrong and with less than an hour before ko, three players still had not arrived.

“Too many players thought it was just a matter of turning up and forgot you have to earn the points by scoring more than opponents. Even at 2-0 down with 25 to play we created enough chances to win the game but their keeper only had one serious save to make and that is just not good enough.

“Players never go out to play badly and the team has been excellent during this good run of results but we lacked conviction and composure. If you want to challenge for promotion, you must find a way of winning these games.”
