Blevins’ late penalty save earns Slane a point in promotion clash

After beating Bourneview 1-0 on Tuesday evening, Moneyslane travelled to Hanover in a crunch promotion game for both teams on Saturday.

The pitch was in good shape, allowing both teams to play football on the deck. Right from kick-off, the home team created a chance when a through-ball wasn’t dealt with but the shot was wide.

Slane settled down though and Ervine and Harrison had plenty of the ball up front. Hanover had two very good chances but they failed to hit the target when they should have done better.

Greg Harrison then had a shot charged down before Ervine fired a header over from a corner as both teams had their moments. The key one of the game arrived on 39 minutes when Jason Fairley went in hard and received his second yellow-card, leaving the visitors down to 10 men.

A reshuffle to a 4-4-1 system saw Moneyslane on the back foot and knowing defeat would all but end their promotion hopes. A well organised away team set about trying to get something from the game and it was clear that were going to fight for it.

Hanover,, although having plenty of the ball rarely troubled Blevins. Moneyslane had a few chances on the break with the most notable seeing Adair fire into the side-netting after the keeper had misjudged the cross.

There was late drama when on 85 minutes an attacker went down in the box and Slane were far from happy at the award of a penalty. However, Blevins produced a fantastic save, diving to his right to earn a point.
