Back to basics for the visit of Carrick

It’s back to basics declares manager Gary Hamilton as Glenavon tackle Carrick Rangers in Friday night’s league clash at Mourneview Park.

The Lurgan Blues have a chance to bounce back from the recent loss at the Oval, but will not take Carrick lightly, especially after the meeting between the sides ended 2-2 at Taylors Avenue.

“It is back to square one and back to basics again after our defeat last Saturday,” said Hamilton.

“We have to start again and we have to prepare in the best possible way for Carrick who are fighting to stay in the Premier League. That is their big target and we know they will test us.

“We are at home, but they have a better record away from home than they do on their home patch so they certainly can trouble us if we have any dip in form.”

It was player manager Hamilton who saved his team from defeat at Carrick with an injury time equaliser back in September.

“It is important we keep it tight at the back and then hopefully we can score a couple of goals and get the win we want. We have seen so often this season any team can win on their day so no matter the opposition you cannot afford to be off your game or you will get punished.”

The team will be on the same lines as last week with no new injury concerns.

David Elebert and Kevin Braniff were expected to get some game time with the reserves this week and if all goes well the manager hopes they will be fit and ready for selection in a couple of weeks.

The match on Friday night kicks off at 7.45pm.
