Amateurs U12s progress in the Mid Ulster Cup

ON Saturday Dromore Amateurs U12s took on Windmill Stars U12s in the Mid Ulster League Cup at Dromore Leisure Centre.

The team, lead by their captain Reuben Turner, progressed through to the next round thanks to a terrific performance from everyone involved.

From the first whistle the amateurs played with real emphasis putting pressure on the Windmill back line, some terrific build-up play from Charles Cully, Karl Taggert and Scott Briggs resulted in a number of dangerous crosses and missed chances, likewise on the other wing saw Joe Luke make some mazy runs creating space in which could be exploited.

The midfield partnership of Reuben and Ben Stevenson started to get a hold on the game providing a solid platform from which the Dromore could attack.

However the first half was not all one way traffic, but thanks to the solid defence of Dylan Crookshanks, Matty Crossey, Benjamin Smyth, Adam Parker and keeper Josh Best,

Dromore was able to limit Windmill to having minimal time and space in Dromore half and therefore limiting Windmills chances. A determined first half finished 0-0 but with Dromore having the majority of possession and creating the better chances.

With the first half ending 0-0 the game was perfectly set up for an eventful second half, which did not disappoint. The breakthrough came thanks to the lively Karl Taggart who latched onto a through ball from the inspirational Scott Briggs, receiving the ball 35 yards out and driving into the Windmill box, out powering the back line to casually slot the ball into the bottom corner.

Soon after that goal there was a double substitution which saw Jack Yalcinkaya and Joshua Moore enter the field of play, these change soon played dividends with Jack Yalcinkaya setting up Karl once again with a fine through ball which was finished expertly.

This is how the game finished with Dromore unlucky not to extend the score line. All in all it was a terrific team performance, where the team received their just rewards for the hard work and determination that was shown.

The man of the match was close between Scott Briggs and Karl Taggart but in the end going to Karl Taggart who worked incredibly hard and finished both goals expertly.
