Amateurs fail to raise their game in cup tie

CLARENCE Cup action at Ferris Park on Saturday saw Dromore take on opponents who are sitting second in the league above them.

With Dromore’s poor performance last week this looked a daunting task. But Dromore always seem to raise their game when they’re not expected to.

Dromore looked comfortable from the start with the defence coping well against a talented strike force with Irish league experience. Good play down the left allowed S Henderson to whip in a cross onto R Coadys head with the goal at his mercy only for his poor header to go over the bar. This was a let off for Dunmurry who were rattled at this stage.

The next attack again found R Coady with the goal at his mercy as he found space in the box. Coady took too long with his shot allowing the defenders to get the block in.

Top scorer Coady usually would have finished these off with ease but couldn’t find the target today. Dromore then went into self destruct mode! Some poor passing between the defence and keeper N Beggs gifted the Dunmurry player a one on one which he made no mistake with. It was Dromores turn to be rattled as this was against the run of play.

Unbelievably Dromore gifted Dunmurry another goal from the very next attack, this time N Beggs had to take all the blame as some loose passing left the striker with any easy tap in.

Dromore picked themselves up for the second half and showed great character in taking the game to Dunmurry. They kept pressing and totally dominated the rest of the game.

Chances were being created from all over the park and Coady was put through after good build up only for his shot to go wide of the target.

Big Billy Coulter was unlucky on a couple of occasions with his head only for the woodwork saving Dunmurry on these occasions.

Dromore go out of the cup but they can take a lot out of this game and hopefully find the winning formula next week.
