First outing of the year for Hilltop golfers

SUNDAY March 29 saw the first of the year's outings for the Hilltop Golf Society.

Mourne Park in Kilkeel paid host with new captain David Niblock eager to get going at his local course.

As conditions stayed bright and dry scores should have been good, but as they came in, this was not the case.

Putting a few birdies on his scorecard, Philip Moorhead hit 31 points and took second prize. Local knowledge seemed to be an advantage with Brian Groves and Rob Hall taking front nine and back nine respectively.

Saying this was more skill than knowledge, Trevor Weir hit a huge drive at the end to make sure that he cannot be beaten for longest drive.

Finishing also with 31 gave Trevor third prize and he looked pleased with his morning's play.

With top prize still there for the taking, Clive Donaldson handed in his card with a smile and 32 points to beat.

This proved to be good enough for Clive to take top spot on the day and saying it was long overdue.

Only with the dreaded wooden spoon to be handed out, Neil Hanna looked on nervously. He breathed a sigh of relief when newcomer and father Richard Hanna's name came out one less than his son's.

A most enjoyable day was had by all with 24 in attendance. The club would like to thank Robert Graham of Graham's Ice-Cream for his kind sponsorship on the day.

Next on the agenda will be an outing to Rockmount on April 25.
