Fifths can’t find leveller

South Antrim Fifths hosted Portadown Fourths in the 1pm push back at Friends’ School.

Following last week’s defeat the Fifths hoped to get off to a better start.

However, the young South team were slow coming out of the blocks and were under constant pressure from a slick Portadown team.

Veteran keeper Ashley Sloan pulled off some reflex saves but eventually South fell behind to a quick passing attack from Portadown and shortly afterwards were two down following a well worked short corner.

South started to fight back with Willie Redpath Senior putting one just past the post and then Jonny Sykes’ effort from the edge of the circle just clearing the crossbar.

The second half started better for South with a more organised team and started taking the game to the visitors.

South started passing the ball and created more chances culminating in Andy Farrell beating two men and slotting the ball into the circle for fellow Ben Faulkner to calmly collect the ball, control it and slot it into the net past the advancing keeper. South pressed and dominated the last 15 minutes of the match but were unlucky not to find an equaliser.
