‘Exceptional rain’ to blame for Glenariffe flooding

ROADS chiefs have turned down a request by Moyle Sinn Fein councillor Margaret Anne McKillop for additional drainage on the Glen Road, Glenariffe.

Divisional Roads Manager Deidre Mackle, in a letter to Moyle Council, stated: ‘After the Council meeting, Roads Service’s supervisor spoke to Mr Graham who stated that the flooding occurred due to really exceptional rainfall and that no amount of additional road drainage could have coped.

‘He confirmed this was the first time, in over 20 years, that he had seen such flooding. In normal rainfall we have sufficient drainage along this stretch of carriageway and have no plans for any additional works.’
