Enoch is on target at Rathfriland Clay Pigeon Club summer shoot

THE summer shooting season at Rathfriland Clay Pigeon Club has become increasingly busy in recent weeks with the biggest attendance yet for the summer at the recent 20-bird DTL, held on Thursday 17 May.

The club saw a total of 11 lines shot with no less than nine shooters reaching the final, all shooting scores of 20/60.

The first shoot-off comprised of the ever-present Geoff Dale, Frank McKay, Damien Corvan, Neville Ferguson and Mark Balfour. From this line it was Balfour who impressed, coming away with a hard-fought 20/59.

The second shoot-off had more of a local feel with Aaron Smyth lining up alongside Enoch McCauley, Norval Harrison and George Gracey. This line saw more top scores with both Smyth and McCauley hitting 20/60’s again to force a head-to-head.

The pair went at it through fast-fading light. The final went all the way to single barrel competition but in the end it was McCauley who took first place, leaving Manchester United die-hard Aaron Smyth disappointed - and not for the first time lately!

Final results were as follows: 1st, Enoch McCauley; 2nd, Aaron Smyth; 3rd, Mark Balfour.

As per usual shooting will continue on Thursday nights throughout the summer, the next 20-bird DTL taking place on Thursday May 24. Shooters are also reminded of the 100-bird DTL competition taking place at Rathfriland on Saturday May 26.

This will hopefully be a big event for the club and all shooters will be made welcome.
