Emma teams up with Sonya Mac for motorsport fundraiser

MARATHON runner and Cool FM DJ Sonya Mac has gathered a team of celebrity ladies - including Banbridge’s Emma McKinstry - to head up the charity motorsport event of the year.

The Alltrak Ladies Charity Drive aims to raise funds for Action Cancer at the Alltrak Rallysport in Craigavon on Sunday September 2 2012.

Up to 45 lucky ladies will have the chance to team up with celebrity team captains Sonya Mac and Kirstie McMurray (Cool FM), Pamela Ballantine (UTV), Siobhan McGarry (Downtown Radio) Emma McKinstry (WRC Level Rally Driver) and take part in activities such as rally driving, rally karting, quad autotest, mini digger driving and a Formula 1 simulator at the Craigavon based motorsport activity centre.

To take part in the event, adrenalin seeking ladies need to register and pay a deposit of £100 and commit to raising at least a further £100 in sponsorship. Prizes will be presented on the day for the winning ladies, the winning team, highest fundraisers and many other awards.

The Alltrak Ladies Charity Drive is one of a series of fundraising events organised by Sonya Mac for her New York Marathon team who are raising money for Action Cancer, Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charity by running in the famous marathon in New York in November.

Sonya said, “Running, driving competitively and fundraising for Action Cancer are three of my favourite things so it was only natural to invite my friendly motorsport rivals Kirstie, Siobhan, Pamela and Emma, who all have a lot of motorsport experience, to help me to create this exciting ladies only event at Alltrak Rallysport to raise money for the 2012 New York Marathon Action Cancer appeal.

‘Action Cancer is the only cancer charity in Northern Ireland to provide a free mobile screening service that can help to detect cancers early, along with providing support services for patients and their families.’ She said

Downtown Radio DJ Siobhan McGarry, a seasoned rally co-driver herself, said, “I have competed in rally events against Sonya, Pamela, Kirstie and Emma at one time or another and I don’t want to spoil their fun, but I’m feeling very lucky!’

UTV presenter Pamela Ballantine added, ‘I am looking forward to taking part in the Alltrak Ladies Charity Drive. As all the Celebrity Team Captains have raced against each other in various events in the past, normally resulting in my victory, I am looking forward to my team of ladies showing the other teams how to drive like the professionals.’

Places are expected to fill quickly and ladies should register their interest at www.alltrakrallysport.com

Full details of the event are available on the website and info packs will be emailed to registered participants.
