Early pressure pays off for U13s

Banbridge Town U13s 2

THE Banbridge boys started this match having forgotten all about last week’s defeat in the cup and immediately put Loughgall under pressure.

They were rewarded after only five minutes when a well hit corner by Niall McCreanor was cleared by a defender only to fall to Stephen McCavitt just outside the box and he drove the ball hard and low beating the keeper to open the scoring.

A few minutes later Niall Scullion almost made it two but his close range shot just hit the outside of the post with the keeper beaten.

Josh Cargin then burst through and just when he looked like scoring was brought down for a penalty. Stephen McCavitt unfortunately just put the ball past the post.

A few minutes before half time Banbridge got another penalty when Stephen McCavitt, who caused the Loughgall defence problems throughout the match, was brought down. Declan Loy coolly placed his shot low and hard into the corner of the net.

In the second half Loughgall began well and their pressure resulted in a penalty being given which they duly scored. They could have equalised but for a fine save from goalkeeper William Maxwell.

Banbridge themselves were awarded yet another penalty but this time the keeper saved from Declan Loy.

Both David Gray and Josh Cargin continued to trouble the Loughgall defence and Banbridge defended well for the remainder of the match with central defenders Dylan Martin and Lee Close both giving a good account of themselves and ended up worthy winners.

Team: William Maxwell, Niall McCreanor, Dylan Martin, Lee Close, Andrew Bennington, Stephen McCavitt, Niall Scullion, Philip O'Keefe, Declan Loy, Josh Cargin, David Gray, Andrew Martin, Michael Jordan.
