Eamon McAnearney wins Bank Holiday Medal

LAST Monday, May Day, was a bank holiday and than means there was an 18 holes medal competition at the golf club.

A total of 66 members played and the top six all won prizes.

Eamon McAnarney (16) was the clear winner with a nett 64, beating the calculated standard scratch by three shots.

Eugene Weir (5) was back to his brilliant best as he went round in two over par gross 71. A nett 66 was good enough for second place.

David Cherry (11) picked this particular competition to jump-start his season. He shot a nett 67 and picked up third prize.

Brian Parkes (13) also had a nett 67 and he was delighted to get fourth place. Brian is hitting form at just the right time as a lot of senior competitions are coming up.

Jim Ledlie (24) reckoned that he wouldn’t count when the competitions moved to the back tees. But he was only being modest as he shot a nett 67 on the Bank Holiday and he won the prize for the best senior player.

Jonathan Ward won the best gross prize with a two over par 71. The way Jonathan is playing at the moment, it would not surprise me if he got his handicap down to scratch. Wouldn’t that be something!

There are always a number of near misses. Ronnie Lavery (28), Damian Weir (5), Shane Bell (7), Bill McCandless (6), Seamus McNally (21), Jonathan Shannon (5) and Philip Mallon (9) all scored nett 68’s, one shot too many.

But the man with the biggest smile on his face was the winner, Eamon McAnarney, and nobody will begrudge him his moment of glory.
