Dunbarton A win away at Ewarts by a total of 47 shots

In what has always been a troublesome venue for the Gilford side, they returned home with all four winning rinks and 7 points.

On rink one David Copeland, Jack Moffett, Peter Convery and skip DJ Wilson were drew against home skip David Cunningham.

At the five end mark the Dunbarton four held a slender one shot lead (4-5) and increased that on the tenth end (7-10) after a superb weighted bowl from Wilson, with two shots against managed to edge of an outside bowl into the head and turn the advantage into their favour.

A tremendous few ends from Wilson’s four seen them score counts of 4-2-4-2-1 and secure their victory by 15-25.

Conor McCartan’s rink on number two, of Chris Trainor, James Kelly and Gary McElroy faced long serving Ewarts skip Jackie Templeton.

After a very even start, the Dunbarton rink soon found their rhythm and had a comfortable victory.

After trading single shots for the first four ends (2-2) McCartan’s rink went on a scoring spree, losing only four of the next fourteen ends. Counts of 3-2-3-1-2-1-4-1-1 and they were 10-20 ahead paying the 19th end and finished with a 12-21 win.

Rink three’s match draw seen Martin Trainor and his brothers Sean and Kieran, along with Alan Paul at third, come up against promising young Ewarts skip Chris Mullen.

However, all four Dunbarton bowlers were in commanding form from start to finish, returning the best scorecard of the day and a seventeen shot win.

The score line finished 13-30.

On rink four for Dunbarton were Michael Higgins, Tony Bell, Myles Greenfield and skip Andy Hughes. They were in opposition to the experienced Ewarts skip of Victor Atkinson.

In a similar game to that on rink three, the Gilford men only lost six of the twenty one ends as again they showed their class with an eleven shot win.

Scores of two shots on ends six, nine, 10, 13 and 16 were pivotal in their 11-22 win.
