Dunbarton face a tough task to complete treble

The locals are just half a point behind Larne with a game in hand.

However, they are just half a point ahead of old rivals Belmont and the East Belfast side have a trip to bottom of the table Ards to finish their campaign. In most people’s eyes, this is a guaranteed maximum pointer.

Considering Belmont’s last four games have been won 7,7,7,7 against strong teams including Ballymena, Old Bleach and Pickie, it is likely that they will make it five maximums in a row.

The maths is then very simple for the Gilford bowlers - they need to score all seven points away to Ballymena, a team they haven’t beaten away from home in six years.

Indeed, the last time that the locals won in Ballymena, they needed 5.5 points to win the treble and gained a six so could this be a case of deja vu?

There is no doubt however that the Braidmen will be gunning for Dunbarton after they ripped the Irish Senior Cup from their grasp in that dramatic final two weeks ago. Either way, should Dunbarton be pipped at the post, they will finish with the Senior Irish Cup, Private Greens Cup and potentially a runners up spot in the league.

It’s a fantastic achievement, but can they finish with the icing on the cake?
