Dromore swimmers head out for training

MATTHEW Walker and Nicky Galloway flew out to Tenerife on Friday morning with a squad of 22 young swimmers as part of the Ulster Schools swimming team for a week-long warm weather training session.

They are training in the new T3 training pool in Tenerife, argued to be one of Europe's best facilities.

Matthew and Nicky were selected after competing in the Secondary Schools Swimming Championships in January 2010. Matthew (14) is a pupil of Dromore High School and Nicky (15) a pupil of Banbridge Academy. The boys are representing their schools as part of this selection on this fantastic tour, and we understand both schools are extremely proud of their achievements.

They both live in the Dromore area and have become great friends. They are members of Lisburn City Swimming Club, train together each week within the same squad and go to many championships together.

A massive achievement for both boys and an incredible opportunity to have this week long warm weather training where the coaching is superb and the facilities tremendous.

The season is just starting for the boys and we look forward to watching their progress in the months ahead.
