Dromore shock double challengers Lisnagarvey

THE Dromore Senior team surprised Lisnagarvey in their home league game, winning by 17 shots taking five and half points.

Rink 1: A Sudlow, K Aiken, D Shanks, A Johnston.

Rink 2: T Wilson, D Graham, SG Malcomson, J McKenny.

Rink 3: H Hylands, W Clinghan, D Burns, F Cranney.

Rink 4: S Jess, G Dawson, R Greer, G Clinghan.

Lisnagarvey, who going for the league and Irish Cup, were three and half behind leaders Whitehead knowing that they were going to have to fight for full points.

When the five end score was taken both teams were level, mainly because G Clinghan had an eight shot advantage, McKenny was down by five, Cranney was down two and Johnston was in arrears by one.

The home team had taken a lead of seven at the halfway stage. Clinghan now led by five, McKenny had taken the game to his opponent, scoring 11 without conceding any to lead by six, Cranney had levelled his score to 10-10 with Johnston down by four.

The home team were giving nothing away and were now eight ahead. Clinghan was still holding on to a six shot lead with McKenny holding his lead of six, Cranney was all square and Johnston was down by three.

In the final six ends the home team held on to secure a famous victory of 17 shots.

It was a good evening for McKenny, winning by 12; there was a good performance by Cranney to win by seven after having had two counts of five against him; Johnston nearly took a point, going into the last end one ahead, but lost one to finish a draw with Clinghan down by two.

- The Dromore junior team had a stroll in the sun when they were away to Gilnakirk in a league game on Saturday, taking all the points in a 60 shot victory.

Rink 1: E Walker, T Gribben, G Harvey, G Ervine.

Rink 2: N Lindsay, G McDowell, J Noddings, S Malcomson.

Rink 3: T Ogle, T Ledlie, H Maxwell, T Sudlow.

Rink 4: J McCullough, J Topping, I Houston, A Sudlow.

In the final away game of the season the locals were looking to go a high and when the first five ends were played they had a commanding lead of 25 with all rinks up. Malcomson was leading the way with 15 scored and none conceded, Ervine was five to the good, T Sudlow was up by three and A Sudlow was ahead by two.

The juniors were still going strong at the halfway stage, 39 to the good. Malcomson still had a big lead of 14, Ervine was seven ahead, T Sudlow was eight ahead and A Sudlow was in the black by 10.

Forty-nine was the margin at the three quarter stage. Malcomson’s lead was 16, Ervine’s was 15, T Sudlow was at 12 and A Sudlow was six ahead.

In the last six ends the locals were not hard pressed, winning their game by 60 shots. Malcomson had a field day, winning by 27 shots, Ervine’s margin was 12, A Sudlow was a winner by 11 with T Sudlow winning by 10.

Next Saturday the Senior team is away to Banbridge and the Juniors are at home to Ballycarrett. Both are the final games in the League.
