Dromores senior and intermediate medal winners 9l-r) Dylan Branker, Reece Montgomery, Robin Cantley, Alanna Wilson, Aaron Atkinsonm Kerry McDowell, Ethan Dunn and Brooke Shaw,

There were many fine performances over the 2 days of competition across the five different age-groups.

This was the best set of performances by Dromore HS pupils in recent memory, even allowing for the additional age-group introduced this season.

All medallists from the Down Schools’ have now qualified to compete at the Ulster Schools’ – 21 individuals and 5 relay teams.

Dromore High School's Mini, Minor and Junior Boys.

Both the boys and girls teams had a very successful event with almost identical results. Best performances came from our two sprinters Victoria Pepper and Rhys Gregory.

Victoria achieved gold in the Long Jump and silver in the 100m with Rhys going one better in winning golds in both events.

Victoria then teamed up with Alysha Wilson, Tara Kelly & Leah Moffitt to win silver in the relay. Rhys was joined by Matthew Boville, Zac Simpson and Ryan McDowell to win gold in their final.

Dromore High School's Mini, Minor and Junior girls.

Zac was particularly unfortunate to miss out on a medal after finishing 4th in both the 100m and Shot Put. The boys narrowly failed to retain the Mini Boys Team Trophy won by last year’s group.

Cameron Beacom-Hurle had to wait until the very last event before securing a well-deserved bronze in a high jump competition that was eventually decided on ‘count-back’.

The boys relay squad also had a good day and were only just pipped for the gold medal in a truly exciting race which was decided by ‘photo-finish’.

The team of Ben Cushnie, Jacob Collins, Sam McKinstry & Jake Corbett duly collected their silver medals.

Top performers were Peter O’Connor, Eve Hughes and Daniel Harper with individual medals in both events that they competed in.

Peter won a gold (Discus) and a silver (Shot); Eve won silver in shot and discus, with Daniel securing double bronze in the 800m and Long Jump.

Both Daniel and Peter also picked up a bronze medal in the relay and were joined by Tyler Graham and Jake Shortland. Owen Jameson, in an event he has only started, won bronze in the triple jump.

Like Zac in the Mini Boys, Kiara Malcolmson was unfortunate to end up with two 4th place finishes in the 200m and 800m despite running bravely in both finals.

Robin Cantley and Kerry McDowell were the most consistent performers in the ‘Inter’ section with two medals each.

Kerry won gold (300mH) and bronze (80mH) with Robin achieving 2 bronzes in the High Jump and Discus.

Alanna Wilson won bronze in the 100m, with Brooke Shaw winning a silver in the Discus. Robin teamed up with Dylan Branker, Reece Montgomery and Aaron Atkinson to cross the line in bronze medal position in the Relay.

Daniel Dawson transferred his excellent form in cross country & road running to the track to destroy the field in the 5000m, before summoning up the energy to win a silver in the ‘metric mile’ (1500m).
