Dromore held at Lisnagarvey

ON Sunday Dromore Girls U15 hockey team travelled to Lisngarvey Hockey Club to play against Armagh.

The girls started very strongly with some good performances from Shannon Atkinson and Sarah Russell down the right wing.

Dromore’s first goal came from an attack down the right week with a pinpoint cross from Sarah Russell finding Alex Taylor at the back post who smashed the ball into the Armagh goal.

Dromore got caught on the break and allowed Armagh to equalise. At half time the score was 1-1.

At half time Dromore lost a player through injury and had to play the whole second half with 10 players. This did not affect the girls as the ten girls just worked harder and battled more.

The hard work paid off when Beth Ravey slotted home a well worked penalty corner to give Dromore the lead.

Dromore had chances to increase their lead but just couldn’t find that finish. Armagh also chances and five minutes from the end scored a goal to equalise. Armagh were attaching again. Alice Winson made a great save, but Armagh got onto the rebound to strike again.

Supporters held their breath as Ellen Wright came across the circle just in time to stop the goal going in, what a save from the defender!

At the final whistle Dromore were disappointed in only drawing but this was great result for the young team against a very strong Armagh team and with only ten players for half the game.
