Dromore fall at first hurdle in Junior Cup

The conditions were perfect for a running game.

CIYMS took an early lead through two well struck penalties by their lively scrum half. Dromore then began to dominate the forward exchanges, dominating scrums and lineouts.

The Dromore backs kicked into action and the speedster Chris Jenks finished off three fantastic moves to score a rapid hatrick and put Dromore 15-3 up.

A quick penalty by CIYMS saw them catch the Dromore defensive line flat footed and they sneaked a try against the run of play.

Dromore had clear chances to build on their lead before the break but a lack of composure saw the chances slip.

Following the restart Dromore forged forward at will, after good driving by McDonald and Dalton, Lee Steenson broke blind and put Dromore’s young fly half Ryan Cobb in for a fantastic try, and again following the restart Dromore’s pack blasted Dalton over close to the posts for Dromore to take a 27-13 lead.

CIYMS began to run the ball at every opportunity, and the sin binning of Allen led to 10 quick points to their tally, the CIYMS side grew in confidence and the young Dromore side seemed to loose their shape.

A further try on full time rounded off a great come back for the east Belfast side to claim victory 37 - 27.

Dromore coach Jeremy Ogle was disappointed at the end.

“I think we played really well today, we built a lead but then through our own mistakes we gave CIYMS a lifeline and the momentum of the game changed,” he said.

“We are a young side and will be working hard during the week for our next league match”

Dromore travel to Donaghadee next Saturday for a Qualifying League One match. KO 2.30pm
