Double as Kevin wins Tommy White and Jack Carson Cups

Last Wednesday’s ten mile time trial on the Rathfriland Rd was particularly significant in the Banbridge CC calendar.

No less than three trophies were being contested.

The Tommy White Memorial gives the best triallists in the club a rare opportunity for a win with the coveted trophy awarded to the club rider with the fastest actual time – no handicaps to cloud the issue. The Jack Carson Memorial cup goes to the club vet (40+) with the fastest actual time –providing an opportunity for the best of the older riders to claim silverware. Finally the first time trial in the Lutton Cup series (over two rounds) caters for all riders via the handicap system.

On the night it was time trial specialist Kevin Wilson who stole the show with an impressive 23.21 on a middling evening - and, being a vet, this was good enough to claim an excellent double – lifting both the Tommy White and the Jack Carson cups.

Kevin eked out an advantage of just over 50 seconds on runner up Kevin McAlinden (24.13) who has held both trophies in recent years.

Joe Penny and Andy Beattie hold a joint lead in the Lutton Cup after round 1.

The Ulster Mountain Bike Championships are being held in Castlewellan Forest Park next weekend - Sunday August 24 and are being hosted by Banbridge CC. A full programme of races has been organised including Under Age, Juniors, Senior and Elite Men and Women. The Under Age kicks off at 10.30, seniors at noon and elite at 2.00pm. It would be greatly appreciated if club members who not competing would volunteer to assist with marshalling duties.
