Double cup win for local bowlers

The Thornton Cup was the first competition and it started at 9.30am. The opposition was Grove United Bowling Club. The Banbridge rinks were as follows:

Rink 1: Jim Close, Paul Chambers, Jack Scott, Dan Buchanan (skip).

Rink 2: Shamus Byrne, Derek Moles, Jim Hamilton, Charlie Davis (skip).

After a very tight game Banbridge won by one shot.

The Hatch Cup was the next competition and it started at 1pm. The opposition was Lurgan Bowling Club. The Banbridge rinks were as follows:

Rink 1: Eric Hodgen, Jack Noddings, Paul Chambers, Dan Buchahan (skip).

Rink 2: Shamus Byrne, Frank Dolan, Jim Hamilton, Charlie Davis (skip).

Banbridge won this game by five shots.

This was an excellent result for Banbridge as they won the same two cups last year.

Tom Blackwood was due to play in these competitions but unfortunately at Warrenpoint Bowling Club on Wednesday he tripped and broke a bone in his arm.
