Doherty and Patterson shine in 32 goal victory

Bann’s defence started strong making it hard for Phoenix’s attacking players to pass into their own shooting circle, resulting in them only scoring two goals in the first quarter and Bann going 11-2 in front.

GD Rachel Ryan and GK Elaine Henry worked tirelessly, creating distance between the Phoenix shooters and the net and forcing them into taking more challenging shots which affected their accuracy in shooting.

Bann used the steals to their advantage working the ball well up the court using WD Kerrie Patterson, C Clare McCullough and WA Lisa Doherty to keep the momentum flowing and ensuring the ball reached their shooting circle to stretch their lead. The girls ended their first half leading 19-4.

Bann were confident going into the third quarter. No changes were made and the new attacking force of WA Lisa Doherty, GA Lisa Trainor and GS Melanie Lloyd was paying off as GS Melanie Lloyd seemed to be coming back to form, popping in lovely goals from the edge of the circle.

With an injury in the final quarter, Lisa Trainor moved into C to replace Clare McCullough and Mona Lewis took court as GA. Mona settled quickly and Bann finished strongly, winning the game by 32 goals. Bann 42 - 10
