Determined performance not enough for Seconds

AFTER a strong start to the season with three consecutive wins Banbridge Seconds were confident going into their game against Clann Eireann on Thursday October 25 at Gilford Community Centre.

The game started at a very fast pace with both teams unsettled. Bann worked very hard at the start of the first quarter and took an early lead however Clann Eireann soon got into the flow of the game, not wanting Banbridge to run away with the first quarter resulting in an equal score of 8-8.

Bann started the second half with a new centre player and the team settled down into their own game.

Clann Eireann’s attack were very solid making Bann’s defence work extra hard and excellent shooting from both the GA and GS saw Clann Eireann take half time with a seven goal advantage.

A very determined Bann started the third quarter with great defending and attacking play. After a few interceptions, Bann scored four in a row which gave them a good boost and pulling it back to within 3 goals.

Unfortunately Clann Eireann were not going to make it easy taking the game to another level. Clann Eireann’s disciplined game took over and left very little for Bann’s defence to stop the controlled play. The final score was 37–24 to Clan Eireann.

The club had a great response with 19 girls attending the three day camp in Banbridge Leisure Centre over the half term holidays.

The camp was open to individuals within and outside the Club and was also an opportunity for those who wanted to learn a new sport to come and try.

The girls were divided into three groups on the first day of the camp and this provided a fantastic opportunity for them to get to know each other and learn how to work together as a team.

Each of the three days had a different focus in order to develop the fundamentals of balance, agility and co-ordination.

The fun warm up games at the start of each session were an opportunity to win points for your team with the winning team at the end of the Camp receiving a cinema ticket for Iveagh Movie Studios.

Everyone who took part in the camp also received a goodie bag and the club would like to say thank you to both Iveagh Movie Studio’s and McPolin Centra, Church Street who sponsored these.
