Defeat in the League Cup for U17s

Cookstown 2

Moneyslane U17s 1

MONEYSLANE U17s travelled to Dungannon on Saturday to play Cookstown in the League Cup.

With some key players missing some of the other players in the squad had the opportunity to shine. Slane started a bit tentatively as they were up against the league leaders. After five minutes Slane found themselves a goal down.

This was just the tonic the lads needed to get back into the game after a slow start. Slane were now putting Cookstown under a lot of pressure with their free kicks and corners. Cookstown were finding it hard to cope with their strength and height advantage.

With the half nearing a close Slane got a corner and this time Jamie Wharton found the net with a neat flick past the keeper.

With Slane now on a high they took the game to Cookstown and but for a couple of lucky breaks they could have had three more goals. But as in some previous game Slane just lost a bit of composure and Cookstown took the lead on 65 minutes.

With only five minutes left the Slane manager put three at the back in the hope of getting an equaliser but it wasn’t to be. The manager was very proud of the performance of the lads on the day.
