THIS game was a textbook example of a meaningless end of season fixture.
Scarva Rangers had wrapped up the league title a number of weeks ago and their hosts, Tullyvallen, were neither chasing promotion nor fighting to avoid relegation.
Missing a number of regulars, the champions travelled to Newtownhamilton for their final game of their fantastic season and succumbed to only their second league defeat.
The visitors trailed 2-1 at the half time interval. The highlight of the first half from a Scarva perspective was an outstanding goal from manager Mo Brown, who held off his marker, swivelled and sent an immaculate strike screeching into the top corner of the net.
Scarva scored twice in the second half but it wasn’t enough to avert defeat.
Tullyvallen went 3-1 ahead before the visitors scored their second goal of the evening. A Neil Anderson header was flicked on by Dean McCammon and Ryan Dodds drilled the ball home at the back post.
The home side restored their two goal cushion but Scarva wouldn’t give up the fight.
Long range efforts from Ryan Dodds and Neil Anderson were well saved by the Tullyvallen keeper and a Dean McCammon header was cleared off the line.
Kris Heron played the ball down the left to Dean McCammon who astutely picked out Andrew Boyce and the substitute coolly slotted home for this first ever goal for the first team.
Try as they might, Scarva couldn’t fashion out an equaliser and in added time Tullyvallen made it 5-3.
Best for Scarva Rangers – Neil Anderson.
