SLANE U11s played Newry City last Friday night in the Carnbane League and they were eager to put behind them the disappointment of their defeat on Tuesday night against Ballybot Celtic.
From the start the wee men took control of the game and applied all the pressure with a couple of early shots from Davis, Crawford and Banks who tested the Newry keeper.
Slane’s midfield were in total control winning every tackle and playing good balls into the box were Davis and Megaw on the end of them but with no success hitting their efforts wide of the mark.
From a corner Crawford found Davis and his shot hit the post and a scramble follow up saw Megaw hit goal bound but the Newry keeper somehow saved it on the line
Slane started the second half in the same manner and pushed for the opening goal and Crawford had the best of the chances with his delicate shot tipped off the bar.
As the U11s kept the pressure on a quick ball over the top of their defence was latched onto by the Newry striker and he raced through and rounded Bready and put it in the net.
The following five minutes Newry came into the game put Slane under a bit of pressure but they soon took control again and Sophie Megaw hit a rifling shot and it seemed to have beat the Newry keeper only for him back track to get his fingertips to save the day and pushed it wide for a corner.
Davis whipped in the corner and the clearance went back to him and his shot clipped the post and the follow up shot hit the crossbar and when they did finally get the ball in the back of the net, the ref cruelly blew for offside
