David Davidson wins club cup

COOL and blustery conditions greeted the shooters at Banbridge Gun Club on Easter Monday with the club’s latest 100-bird DTL.

The weather did nothing to deter the shooters however, with a total of 76 guns in attendance from both north and south of the border. Extra incentive was added as the club’s cup was there to be won with scores taken from the middle 50 targets.

Shooting was slow to start, but numerous good scores were to follow. Shooting on squad 12 was the in-form Ian Crooks, with his trusty Beretta, setting the pace with a 100/297. Despite this a barrel during his middle fifty put him out of contention for the silverware.

Also shooting well was Aaron Smyth, who had 75 bottom barrels, and looked to be on his way to another big 300 score. However there was another twist in the tale as Smyth uncharacteristically let a full target away to finish on 99/297.

The silver lining to Smyth’s disappointing finish was his perfect middle 50 targets. He wasn’t the only shooter to achieve this, though, as David Davidson and popular Irish international shooter Jason Coffey equalled his 50 shot.

The three lined up for a shoot-off for the silverware along with Ian Crooks in a fight for high gun.

Crooks was at it again, shooting a flawless 25/75 to take high gun, his second of the Easter weekend. David Davidson also shot 25/75 and claimed the silverware; a successful day for him and for the club, who celebrated another well-run 100-bird.
