David Cherry wins the Open Stableford

A TOTAL of 33 golfers played in the second of the Thursday Open Stableford competitions last week.

That was 10 more than week one and let’s hope that upward trend continues.

David Cherry (11), who was third in the Bank Holiday Medal on Monday, won this time with an excellent score of 41 points. He is obviously in top form and let’s hope it continues for some time.

Senior Cup player, Alastair McCully (3), went round in one under par gross 68 which converted to 40 stableford points, good enough for second place.

Harry Shannon (12) took third place with 39 points, beating Stefan Grenberg on countback.

Jonathan Ward won his second best gross prize in the space of four days with a flawless one over par 70.

David Verner (17) had 37 points while Gareth McGregor (13) and Paul Wylie (12) both had 36 points. Good scores but not good enough.

But the man in form is certainly David Cherry. Could he regain his Ulster Cup team place?
