Starting on the Rathfriland Road, via Rathfriland hill, Moneyslane, Cattlehill, Garvaghy Post Office, this was without a shadow of doubt one tough course.

The two groups were split by three minutes with the first rider away on his own, Geoff Tate eight mins in front of the first group.

The climbs at Annaclone, Rathfriland hill, McCoys garage and Cattlehill were on everyone’s minds as they would surely sap the riders.

The groups came togather between Rathfriland and Moneyslane but there was still a long way to go and they still had to catch the leader Geoff Tate.

They did just that at Cattlehill and with a few attacks starting, riders were finding it tough.

At the finish, this was the first race where there wasn’t a bunch sprint. The winner, Paul Wilkinson claimed a very good victory, out on his own with second Wheeler home Jonny Kernaghan and Mark Alexander third.

Most of the riders said it was brutal so well done to all that rode and finished well, especially Geoff - how he’s improving with every race.
