Cup final place for U12s

BANBRIDGE Rangers U12s secured a Cup Final place on Saturday morning with a superb late show to come back from an early goal with Luke Brown scoring the winner with just under three minutes remaining.

A large travelling support made the journey to Kernan Park in Craigavon to take on Dungannon Colts in the semi-final of the Mid Ulster Cup.

Dungannon kicked off with the breeze at their backs and before 30 seconds were on the clock Rangers found themselves a goal down following some sloppy defending and a smart finish which gave goalkeeper Matthew Hillis no chance.

The goal knocked the confidence of the BRFC boys and they continued to struggle to get to grips with the game despite the encouragement from the sidelines.

After 15 minutes of pretty non-descript football, Banbridge Rangers finally got the ball on the deck and started to pass their way forward. Josh Martin found Harry Patterson on the right in space and he played a one-two with Bailey Russell before releasing Chris Oakes away down the right to cross and Josh Lyttle was unlucky to see his shot drift wide.

Banbridge Rangers were now in control and continued to press for the equaliser, Luke Brown was unlucky with a lob that just went past the right hand post with the keeper nowhere. Half-time followed with BRFC still trailing 1-0.

Dungannon started the second half looking to increase their lead but solid defending by Charlie Hillis and Jack Douglas plus a fine save with his feet by Matthew Hillis kept the scoreline as it was.

Kris Thompson and Bailey Russell were now starting to control the middle of the park as Rangers continued to press. The third of the Hillis triplets, Ben, entered the fray as a substitute and instantly caused problems down the right hand side.

More Banbridge pressure from Josh Crawford led to a corner with only nine minutes to go. The corner was superbly delivered to the back post by Kris Thompson where Josh Crawford crashed a shot into the roof of the net to level the scores.

The wind was in the Gers sails and they were looking to secure victory without extra time and a beautiful through ball by Kris Thompson with three minutes to go, saw Luke Brown break the offside trap and skillfully lob the keeper from 20 yards to see his side into the final and send the Rangers contingent into uproar.

Banbridge Rangers secured the 2-1 victory and can now look forward to the final against Dungannon Youth. Date and Time will be confirmed on clubs facebook page over next few days.
