Saints have their work cut out against league leaders

Championship league matters take centre stage this weekend - nowhere more so than at St Johnston where the home side entertain unbeaten Glendermott.

In all honesty if the Waterside men take the spoils here they may as well be promoted straight away, but they will be wary of a side who, while they have fallen off the pace in the title race, are capable of beating anyone on their day.

The Saints have once again struggled horribly to put out a settled side but if they can get their first choice XI available here it would be an interesting afternoon.

Anything less and Glendermott would be odds-on favourites to make it six from six.

Killyclooney and Burndennett both have an eye on that second place slot for now which should make their clash very interesting.

The home side are unrecognisable from the past couple of seasons but they won’t be happy unless they ruffle plenty more feathers between now and the end of the summer.

Burndennett have some real quality in the ranks however and probably go into this as slight favourites.

Drummond will look to keep their momentum going and will be hard to beat at Creevedonnell, while Sion are running out of chances to get points on the board as they play Bonds Glen.

The race for the top two spots in the Long’s SuperValu Championship is really starting to heat up after Glendermott made it five wins from five matches to head the chase for automatic promotion.

Gordon Montgomery’s side just had way too much in the locker for a Sion Mills outfit that must be looking anxiously over their shoulder after a fifth straight defeat left them marooned at the foot of the table.

Trevor McDermott with 3 for 9 and Roy Silva (2-9) kept the visitors very much in check on a fast track and their 91 all out was never going to seriously test the leaders.

Keen to get on with things, Glendermott professional Roy Silva hit his entire 80 not out in boundaries - 11 fours and 6 sixes as they wrapped up a facile win to stay out in front.

Killyclooney however are on the leaders’ tail as Mark Gordon’s side made it six points from four games with a big win at Bonds Glen.

The Bee Gees started brightly with David Robinson, Lee Britton and Graeme Boyd all among the runs but the visitors fought back with three wickets from Christopher Neely and two apiece from Ellis McGarrigle and Kenny Stevenson.

A final total of 160 all out was a lot less than what the home side had threatened but it proved to be well within the compass of rejuvenated ’Clooney.

Once again it was in-form pairing of Alan Colhoun (49) and skipper Gordon (31) who did the damage with James Colhoun chipping in more than a handy 24.

Kyle Moore picked up two wickets for his side but it rarely threatened to be nearly enough as the visitors moved into second place in the table.
