Old rivals lock horns in Roe

NORTH West clubs had a poor time in the first round of the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup, only three booking their places in the next round.

Brigade Coleraine and Donemana were the only winners and in the next round Coleraine will entertain Donemana while Brigade will host the current holders Waringstown.

The biggest shock of the day saw Limavady lose heavily at Terenure, Bready, Glendermott and Creevedonnell also lost to Southern opposition. Strabane went down at Waringstown while Fox Lodge lost at North Down and Bonds Glen were beaten at home by CIYMS.

Coleraine were impressive in their win over Lurgan as were Donemana away at Pembroke while Brigade were comfortable winners against Carrickfergus.

Its back to league action this weekend with important games on both Saturday and Sunday, below we look at Saturdays games.

Limavady v Donemana

Can the Roesiders bounce back after their abysmal performance in the Irish Senior Cup, were they to complacent and did they under estimate their opponents, what ever the reason they must get things right immediately.

Donemana are currently unbeaten and will travel here with loads of confidence. Junior McBrine and son Andy were the heroes in their win last week but they have a number of other excellent players in their side and will go into this game as favourites.

Prediction: Limavady.

Brigade v Bonds Glen

Mark Simpson’s side will be strong favourites in this one, Iftikhar Hussain was impressive in last Saturdays win where he scored a century, they also seem to have unearthed a promising young professional who has played for Essex Seconds.

The Bee Gees will want to forget last weeks batting performance, although losing their opening two league games they did put up decent shows, they know that it will be difficult to remain in the top flight but they will keep battling.

Prediction: Brigade.

Glendermott v Bready

The Rectory men seem to be going from one crises to another, they have been poor in their opening three defeats and they are having bother getting their full side out, Bob Robinson was missing last week, only their professional Roy Silva is performing.

David Scanlon saw his side go down narrowly at the Hills last Saturday, their first defeat of the season, they have the talent to be up challenging for the title this season and they should have few problems in this one.

Prediction: Bready.

Creevedonnell v Fox Lodge

The Creevies gave North County one or two anxious moments before losing in the Irish Senior Cup last week. They have already got that all important first league win under their belts and will want to build on that.

The Foxies have lost their opening three games, even after losing a couple of players from last season there is still a lot of quality in their side, they have been let down by their bowlers and that has to change soon.

Prediction: Fox Lodge.

Coleraine v Strabane

Ian McGregor’s side have been piling on the runs in their opening three games and the good thing about them is that they have a number of batsmen in excellent form, in the bowling department Stephen Dunn picked up six wickets last week.

Strabane may be losing their talented professional Iqbal who has been called up by Pakistan he would be a big loss. They have won their opening two league games and been impressive and they put up a decent show in their defeat at Waringstown last Saturday.

Prediction: Coleraine.
