Millpark put in an excellent performance to take win

That they managed to come away victorious was thanks to a very good team performance.

Batting first, Millpark were soon one down as Jason Maxwell perished for 4, well caught at the third attempt at first slip. James McGarry, promoted to number three departed for 2, bringing Stevie McCart to the wicket to partner son Stuart.

Stevie was eventually out for a mature 31, which included one beautiful, powerful six over mid on. Jack Lyness made just 1 before he was trapped LBW, bringing latecomer Ryan McCart to the wicket.

Ryan had arrived to the ground by private chauffeur somewhat after his teammates, but soon made up for lost time as he and his brother picked up the scoring rate. He finished on 26 not out, but Stuart’s innings was the one that truly won the match.

He carried his bat through the 35 overs, ending on 74n.o. His was an excellent innings of control and power hitting, the main reason that Millpark finished on a satisfying 152-4.

The first part of Donaghadee’s innings proceeded smoothly. They lost a couple of wickets, both to wunderkind Harry Lockhart, who was unlucky to have another chance dropped by Johnny Breen at cover, but by drinks they were well on target.

James McGarry (1-28) and Jason Maxwell (1-18) brought some control to proceedings, checking the run rate, while chipping in with wickets.

Old hand Ian McCart then brought himself into the attack, and self styled ‘Machine’ did not disappoint. His seven overs went for just 18 runs, and he also took two wickets.

As has frequently been the tale this season, Harry Lockhart took the bowling plaudits as he cleaned up the tail, taking the last two wickets in consecutive balls to finish with fantastic figures of 4-22 from his 6.2 overs.

An excellent performance from the team, Stu McCart and young Lockhart being the standout performers. Special mention also to Brian McCart who took a very well judged catch, and Jack Lyness who fielded athletically to back up his bowlers.
