Nigade, an all-rounder, will be the Section 2 outfit’s overseas player for the forthcoming campaign and a key addition to the club’s coaching set-up.

The 29-year-old, from India, played first-class cricket for Maharashtra nine years ago and was in the 30-man squad for India’s Under-19 World Cup team.

Crucially, he has several years of experience in the Northern Cricket Union, having represented Donaghcloney.

“I have heard loads of good things about Templepatrick, especially about their training facilities and coaching set-up,” said Nigade. “I always focus on kids’ coaching as I think a club’s progress depends on youth. I am very keen on coaching and at the same time feel the adult team should set an example by winning their leagues to encourage them.

“I played for Donaghcloney for five years and I enjoyed every moment - especially coaching the younger players. The first year I was there they had a group of 35 kids and that grew to more than 100 during my time.

“And last year DCC youth teams at Under-11, 13, 15 levels reached finals in their respective leagues. I think that was the best achievement of my time there.”

Asked if he had set a personal playing goal ahead of his move, he replied: “I played in Section 2 for Donaghcloney two years ago and I scored 996 runs, so this year I will be trying to score more than 1,000, for sure. My main target will be to take TCC back to Section 1 and ensure progress of the club’s youth teams.”

He added: “This will be my fifth year in Northern Ireland and I really like the commitment of the clubs and I enjoy the Irish summer - if it doesn’t rain!”

TCC Cricket Development Officer Andy McCrea said: “We are delighted that Mansingh has agreed to join us. This is a significant boost for the club and shows our ambition to improve the standard of cricket we play at all levels. Mansingh is talented player and coach with a proven track record. He will be a great addition to our club and we look forward to working with him this season.”
