Bad weekend for North West sides in Irish Senior Cup

North West interest in this season’s Irish Senior Cup ended on Saturday when the last three local sides lost to their Dublin opponents.

Ardmore traveled to Pembroke and were bowled out for just 119, Andrew Riddles was the only batsman to put up any resistance with his 35. The home side lost five wickets but were never in any danger.

Bready’s bowlers took a real pasting at North County the home side scoring 358 for 3 with their professional Brendon Parchment undefeated with 171 in reply David Scanlon’s side were all out for just 71.

Strabane put up the best show of the North West sides batting first they scored 235 for 9 with Peter Gillespie top scoring with 57 and they had their opponents Clontarf in all sorts of trouble on 120 for 6 however a seventh wicket stand of 119 saw the men from Castle Avenue through to the quarter finals.

Meanwhile once again the elements had the upper hand in the North West over the weekend however despite that, there were at least a full set of results in the scheduled inter-regional cup competitions, with local sides holding their own over the two days.

Saturday’s Championship programme was completely wiped out with Drummond’s eagerly anticipated game at Fox Lodge postponed because the hosts were in National Cup action while the matches between Newbuildings and Creevedonnell and Bonds Glen versus Glendermott were scratched because of waterlogged pitches.

Killyclooney, like Donemana, had been given the weekend off following the terrible deaths of Aaron McDonald and Michael McDonald, from the area in last week’s tragic car accident.
