Corinthians steal a share of the spoils

Corinthians 3

A LARGE crowd turned up to a sun drenched Whitechurch Park to watch the Round Three match between these two sides in the Irish Hockey League.

Corinthians started the first quarter positively, taking the game to Banbridge and were awarded a short corner after five minutes which Brian Doherty duly dispatched to the net.

A green card to Ronan Rixon Fuller led to a period of sustained pressure by Banbridge and while they had a number of circle penetrations the did not get any direct shots on goal.

Into the second quarter an intricate exchange between Darren Kimfly and Lucas Piccioli led to a reverse shot which went narrowly wide.

A green card for Banbridge No. 15 Ross McCandless seemed to spur Banbridge on and they took control of the quarter. A short corner for Banbridge was converted by Ross McCandless high left and more pressure led to a good save by Ross Murray at the near post.

Banbridge took the lead with a goal following a deft touch from Josh Moffett after another well struck ball into the circle.

Into quarter three and Corinthians dominated possession with some long aerial balls putting the Banbridge defense under pressure. A second short corner for Corinthians saw Andrew Cronje deflecting the ball into the net but the goal was disallowed by the umpires.

Banbridge went 3-1 up following a diagonal throw which was picked up outside the 22 and a low ball was drilled across the circle, leaving Dane Ward with a simple tap in.

Into quarter four Corinthians picked up the pace again and an excellent reverse shot by Darren Kimfly made it 3-2. Within minutes Corinthians equalised following a reverse shot by Davy Carson.

The momentum was with Corinthians and the last few minutes of the game were frantic with space opening up all over the pitch. However there were no clear cut chances on either side and the game finished 3-3.
