Comprehensive victory as Bann A on winning form

Banbridge A 85 (6)

Bangor A 77 (1)

THE new season continues to go well for Bann A as they recorded a good win over Bangor.

And their win could have been even more comprehensive as Rink 1 lost by just one shot.

They were well down during the first half of the game and only won the game over the last two ends.

After five ends Bann were down by 12 shots and after 10 they narrowed the gap to 11. By the three quarter stage there were five shots between the sides.

But one Bangor rink failed to score over the final six ends and Bann took full advantage of to triumph by eight shots.

Rink 1: Charlie Davis’s rink lost the first two ends by three shots but won six of the following seven ends to level the scores at 7 shots each.

After 12 ends the Bann rink gained a five shot cushion to make the score 13-8. The game was close during the final nine ends with Banbridge winning four of them to Bangor’s five as the visitors scored more heavily and claiming the win by one shot.

Rink 2: There was a nightmare beginning for Brendan Davis’s rink as they won just one end from the opening 12.

The locals were playing good bowls but Gary Scott was walking on water. Bann trailed by 18 shots but by the 18th end this was reduced to an 11 shot deficit. Eventually they lost out 28-13, Bangor deserving to win but not by such a great margin.

Rink 3: Dan Buchanan’s rink of M Bingham, W Steenson and M Jess started off well with the locals scoring a four and a three on the first two ends.

At five ends Bangor were level at seven shots each with nothing much in it either way. At 10 ends Bann had moved two shots in front and by 15 that advantage had remained in place with the score at 18-16.

If Bann had had a nightmare on rink two the Bangor skip must have been experiencing the same on rink three as the locals took the last six ends, scoring 2, 2, 1, 3, 1, 2 to win by 13 shots – 29-16.

Rink 4: This was another close encounter as at the beginning Bann led by one shot and maintained it after 10 ends with the score at 8-7.

This all changed on end 14 as Bann scored a six. Bangor then won the next three ends and the score was 16-12 in Banbridge’s favour. Bann added a further 3, 2, 4 and only conceded a two as the score finished 24-14 to the locals.
