Colin cruises to top spot to keep up with his mate Aidy

Colin Smylie, winner of the Sunday Sweep, alongside his faithful playing partner, John Russell.

He played the 10 hole course in only one over par gross, enjoy to secure a winning score of 28 points.

The snowfall during the week had spoiled any chance there was of playing “over the hill”. but, as it turned out, the members were happy to learn that ten holes were playable.

The experienced Colin (19) was motivated by the recent success of his playing partner Aidy McEvoy.

Joe Glass won the Middle Section with 27 points.

His other playing partner, John Russell, was also in top form. He won the low section with 26 points.

Joe Glass also deserves a special mention. He went round in level par and duly won the middle section with 27 points.

Ken Stevenson has just returned from playing in the Spanish Amateur Championship in time to win the best gross in Banbridge for the second week in succession.

Incidentally, if Ken had putted a little better in Spain, he could have had a top ten finish. What a man!

Sunday 3rd March

John Molloy celebrated a big birthday recently and his children treated him to the trip of a lifetime.

They took him on a golf trip to Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

This course, as you know, hosted the Ryder Cup back in 1991 and many other major tournaments since then.

After playing Kiawah Island, John must have found the nine holes at Banbridge a bit of a dawdle.

On this occasion, John was in top form and deserved his top place finish.

John Poots was just out of the prizes in fourth place but he didn’t mind.

He had the only “2” on the day and he was richly rewarded.
