Close game in Dromore U10 clash

THIS proved to be a close game with both teams in a similar position in the league.

The game started brightly with Dromore passing the ball well, with some good two touch football learnt on the training ground being brought onto the pitch this Saturday.

Dromore working the ball well down the right and earned a throw in down near the Sirocco box. Nathan has an enormous throw and he used it here, launching a great ball into the area, evading the Sirocco defenders, but not Matthew Briggs who latched onto the ball with a terrific right footed shot that nestled into the roof of the net. That goal takes Mathew Briggs’ tally to six goals for the season. Well done to Nathan for his first assist from a throw in - watch out Rory Delap!

It was not long before Dromore had another chance when the ball was played over Euan’s head, he took a shot but it was well saved by the keeper. Dromore continued to press and Adam worked his way into the box but his shot on target was block by a defender. Shortly afterward the whistle was blown for half time.

The second half was completely different as Sirocco had the wind behind and the slope with them. It was time for our defenders to be examined and they stood up to the task well with Morgan, the captain for the day, making a great goal line clearance.

Joel, Nathan and Alan held firm at the back with Joel and Nathan both shrugging of players to break up attacks and Alan having one of his best games at right back, playing delightful balls forward for Fynn and Adam to run onto.

Josh in goal was also having great game, making save after save, racing out to claim the ball and showing a fantastic display of catching.

Matthew Magill was substituted for Alexander to come to play on the right.

Sirocco kept on pushing forward and hit the bar, using the wind behind them to force their way forward. With only one minute remaining Josh was well beaten with a long distance shot which flew into the net from way outside the area.

Josh was George Best man of the match, taking his tally of awards to eight for the season.

The next game is against Crusaders on Saturday at Lough Moss, kick off 9.30am. This is the U10s’ last league game of the season, so please come along and support.
