Cloney to welcome back former players

DONAGHCLONEY Cricket Club are to host a touring party from India during their trip to Northern Ireland.

THE Indian Masters Cricket Academy Pune, which comprises of players under the age of 25 are undertaking a 15 day tour of the country and the club is proud to host the touring party of 25 personnel including 18 players.

Cloney welcome back the Academy Manager and former Donaghcloney professional Anil Whalekar from the 1989 season. Donaghcloney have also close ties with the Academy coach Raju Bhalekar, who turned out as pro for the village team for a number of years in the early to mid 1980s.

The travelling party arrives in the country on July 15 before departing on July 30. During this period they will play 10 or possibly 11 games against local Northern Cricket Union opposition, including a trip to Waringstown on Monday July 26 for a Twenty20 game.

The Academy sources claim that the young tourists have plenty of potential and possibly could be some to keep an eye on for future progression, and they should provide a stern challenge for the local club teams.

The tour kicks off with a Twenty20 game on Friday July 16 at the Factory Ground, Donaghcloney with a 6pm start.

It is hoped that the arrival of the Indian tourists will create interest both locally and throughout the Province, and there is an open invite to any enthusiasts interested in witnessing the spectacle.

There will be refreshments and also a BBQ available on the evening of the match.
