Charities benefit from club's fundraising

THE members of Rathfriland Bowling Club have raised a grand total of £3,500 for their two charities - Diabetes UK and the neonatal unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital.

These were chosen by the members who have benefited from both charities. Several members are affected by diabetes and the grandson of Jim McConville had cause to need the special services provided by the neonatal unit.

The cheques were handed over last week by the Bowling Club officers at the Bowling Club pavilion and they travelled to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast to hand over the second cheque where they were shown around the unit and to see the McKinley syringe drivers which the unit is going to purchase with the money from the club.

The club's members deserve credit for this massive effort and vice President David Payne and Treasurer Bruce Hamilton are delighted with the amount raised thanks to collections in Banbridge and Rathfriland, a charity pairs tournament, a coffee morning in the Ulster Bank and through tickets sold by members.

They wish to thank the local businesses who gave their support, the Northern Bank who also gave generouslly and to all those who donated prizes for the raffle.

On the club's members day 200 was given to the Children's Hospice so in the last three years the club has handed over 8,000 to charity.
