Carrick made the brighter start and out-half Adam Fittis crashed over for the first score of the game after only five minutes. Mark Ellison was successful with the resulting conversion.

Despite the promising start, Larne responded well with a score of their own to level the game at 7-7.

Carrick Grammar enjoyed long periods of possession for the remainder of the first-half but could only take a 10-7 lead into the break after a successful penalty goal from Ellison.

The physical battle upfront resulted in several injuries and the Carrick side had used all six of their replacements early into the second period.

Despite a number of changes, Carrick Grammar controlled the territorial battle and proved too strong for their opponents.

They rallied to score three further tries through Jake Porter, captain Joel Bell and David Stewart, giving them a well-deserved 29-7 victory.

Bell led by example again with a purposeful display, and there were also notable performances from fifth formers Fionn McCormack and Ellison who was successful with four kicks.
