Paul was presented with the Jim Richardson memorial shield after beating Ross Mackin of Priestfield Methodist, Lisburn, in the final.

It was a fine effort from the young runner-up who was appearing in his first finals night.

Despite Ross making a good start to the final, Canning levelled the match up after four ends and was in control for the rest of the encounter.

The finals night scoreboard was:

Preliminary Round: Andrew Morrison (1st Ahoghill) bt Robin Beattie (Conlig); Brian Rankin (Derramore) bt Christopher Wilson (Michelin); Alan McCombe (1st Ahoghill) bt Glenn Wilson (Maghera Pres.); Jal Richardson (St. Marks, P/Down) bt Tommy Johnston (St. Marys, Desertmartin); Ross Mackin (Priestfield Methodist) bt Angus Barnes (Kildress)
