Busy weekend for the Wheelers

There was another busy weekend of racing for the riders from West Down Wheelers, starting on Saturday when six riders headed down to the Loop, near Coagh, to compete in th Cilli Sport GP promoted by East Tyrone CC.

Alister, Clive, Matt, Andy, Dave, and Brandon were representing the Wheelers and they rode very well.

In the A3s Matt, Brandon, and Dave, were first off and all three thought it was a tough race, with Brandon and Dave coming in the back of what was left of the big group.

Unfortunately, Matt was involved in an accident and had to retire but the good news is nothing was broken but he will be sore for a day or two.

Then it was the turn of the A4 riders Clive, Allister and Andy, and what a good a race they had. This was another tough race but Andy and Clive rode a very good race, finishing in what was left of the big group.

Unfortunately, Allister got caught behind a couple of slow riders and couldn’t bridge the gap up to the lead group.

Paul Wilkinson and Brandon Douglas meanwhile, headed off next day down to Coalislland to compete in the JP Logan.

Paul, riding in the A1s, was going really well but unfortunately had mechanical failure and had to retire.

Brandon in the A3s rode really well, in what was another tough race but he managed a top 20 finish, which was superb after a tough outing on Saturday.

Tonight is the start of the club racing scene when the club have a 20 mile TT on the Tough Rathfriland Rd Course. A good turnout is expected and the Wheelers would like to wish everyone taking part a good safe year’s racing especially their new riders.

The Saturday club runs will continue on any Saturday there’s no racing and they plan this week to ride round Lough Neagh (Lap Da Lough), weather permitting. For more information, visit www.westdownwheelers.com
