Busy month ahead for the Wheelers

IT’S going to be a busy last month for the riders of the West Down Wheelers, starting next week with two road races.

On Tuesday July 24 they are heading to the tough Scarva circuit, consisting of four laps of a hilly course, then on Thursday July 26 they are taking on the quarry circuit which is eight laps of a flat course but for one killer of a hill which they have to tackle eight times. It will be interesting to see who pulls out of this one, but all in all it’s shaping up nicely with still a lot of trophies to battle for.

All riders please note that there will be a couple of Thursday night races and as this is our club night no guests will be allowed to take part so the club needs a good turnout of Wheelers. With 32 now with a club racing licence it should be an in interesting couple of races.

Would all riders please note that if there’s no open racing on a Saturday then they should meet at Tesco at 9am for a club run.

There are some club runs planned for this week so anybody still on holidays who is free and looking to go then keep in touch for times and where to meet. Also bring a few quid for coffee stops.

Anyone looking to know more about the Wheelers can log unto www.westdownwheelers.com

2012 has been kind to the Wheelers - not weather wise but in terms of membership this year the club has 14 new riders. All of them are important to the club from the slowest to the fastest.

We have had good turnouts at the open racing and we believe some of the new riders come next year will be able to make the step up. Plus some of our junior riders are showing very good form and no doubt they will do themselves and the club proud as they get more races under their belt.

Anyone who rides a bike and would like to try racing should get in touch - 14 bike riders have already done it this year and haven’t regretted it - they have even commented how friendly everyone has been to them. Contact any club member for more information.
