Brown Trout results

A busy weekend at the Brown Trout started on Friday when members travelled to Donegal for the day and played the challenging golf course at Greencastle.

In very blustery conditions which ensured low scoring the course was surely the winner!! The only exception was Donal Mulholland (2) being the clear winner scoring 17 points each nine for 34 points.

Donal’s steady round included twelve pars and birdies at holes 5 and 14. Runner-up Robert Orr (12) who recovered from a terrible front nine of only 10 points to post 18 points over the back nine for a total of 28 to pip Club Captain Denis James (24) with the same score losing out on countback with an inferior back nine. Fourth prize went to Trevor Cupples (18) after opening with 12 he added 13 for 27 points just edging Club President Joe Logue (17) who also finished with 27.

The front nine prize was won by Joe and the back nine prize went to Sam Reid (12). J. Logue and R. Orr scored the only twos in the competition. Nearest the pin prizes at the par threes: D. Mulholland at holes 3&11 J. Logue at 6 R. Orr at number 15 and Ronnie Engall at the last. All attending enjoyed friendly hospitality with a meal after the presentation by the Captain.

Then on Sunday afternoon Brown Trout played host to their neighbours from the Manor Golf Club Kilrea. This annual match played alternate years at each club since 2002 ended in a comfortable win for the home side by five games to two. This means that home advantage, with the host club winning every time proves to be a major factor. With the renewal of friendships far outweighing results everyone enjoyed the “banter” and camaraderie over a meal after the match.
