Brown is one of the best in Ireland says Bann coach

After his side completed a thrilling come-back from 2-0 to defeat Railway Union 4-2 on Saturday, the Head Coach was full of praise for his international stars.

Goals from Simon McKeever and James Dick put Bann behind in the first quarter before Owen Magee slammed home a corner rebound in the third to give his side hope. Brother Eugene fired home two penalty corners and Stephen Dowds scored from a flick in a dominant fourth quarter for the hosts at Havelock.

And Tumilty says it was his side’s senior stars that hauled them through.

Eugene was excellent again,” he began.

“Petey Brown wasn’t well but we had to put him on and he made a real difference to us. He’s playing really well. In that central midfield role, I don’t see many better than him. He’s up there with the best in Ireland.

“Stevie Dowds created a lot and was very impressive with Owen playing ahead of him. We’ve messed about with what position to play Owen but he’s playing as a high forward now and has been excellent.

“Matthew Bell was really good again and Bruce McCandless is getting back into his top form too.

“That’s six internationals and all of them are coming into form now.”
“We looked a bit rusty at the start but thankfully the goal came at the end of the third and we kicked on from there. We needed to grind out the right result in those circumstances and thankfully, we did.

“Our corners haven’t been good enough but at this level, goalkeepers are better and the way teams set up defensively is better. We’ll work on those between now and the end of the season,” he concluded, despite Eugene Magee’s two late strikes.
