A bumper package of keepsakes for fans of all sports will go under the hammer at a fund-raising event for All Saints Boxing Club.

The auction will form part of the programme at a Night at the Races run by the Cushendall Road-based club this Saturday night, March 30, at Leighinmohr House Hotel.

The event is already a sell-out with 300 tickets sold but club officials will welcome any interest in some of the lots, which are sure to catch the attention of even non-boxing followers.

They include a signed Ulster rugby jersey from the 2009/10 season featuring the signatures of the likes of Rory best and Andrew Trimble.

There will also be a signed painting of champion jockey AP McCoy, from his 2010 Grand National success on Don’t Push It, by local artist Liam Reilly.

Staying on an artistic theme, there is another piece of work entitled The Butcher Boy, by English artist B Sidney up for gabs, along with a signed photo of an artist on the football pitch, Dutch legend Johann Cruyff.

Boxing fans will also be well catered for, with a pair of gloves signed by ring legends Alan Minter and Joe Frazier due to go under the hammer.

“We believe there’s something for all sports fans and we’re grateful for all the items which have been donated for auction,” said All Saints coach and official Gerry Hamill, who will also act as auctioneer on Saturday night.

The event is the latest fund-raiser for the club ahead of their trip to America in May, when 12 boxers and four coaches will spend five days in Boston and four in New York.

Fund-raising for the trip, which will cost between £18-20,000, has been ongoing for the past year and the club is grateful to those who have supported previous fund-raisers, which have included a Ballymena’s Got Talent night and a dance in the Adair Arms Hotel, when local musicians Johnny Macrory and Barney McKeown provided the music.
